Whether you always stick with good old earl grey or you’re a wild one choosing fresh ginger, mint and a slice of orange, tea is often overshadowed by coffee. Making your own tea blends, iced teas or tea lattes appears to have positive effects on your health. Read why and how you should fill your mug in 2021, backed by experts.


LEMON BASIL ICED TEA
If your basil plant is still alive grab that one, otherwise head to the shop to get your ingredients for this yummy yummy lemon basil iced tea. Green tea contains the most antioxidants and therefore studies suggest that it will benefit your skin health, boosts your immune system and even decrease the risk for cardiovascular disease.

 

INGREDIENTS:

  • ½ lemon thinly sliced

  • 6 fresh basil leaves

  • 3 teaspoons of green tea (or use green tea bags)

  • 3 cups boiling hot water


INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Add the lemon slices, fresh basil leaves and green tea to a jar or pitcher.

  2. Pour hot water into the jar or pitcher and allow to steep for 10 minutes.

  3. Remove the tea.

  4. Place into the fridge to completely chill for 3 - 4 hours.

  5. Serve over ice.

 

ICED CHAI LATTE
Love chai? Perfect, we got the iced chai latte late summer edition for you (it’s super easy!). Chai also turns out to reduce blood sugar levels, aid digestion and boost heart health as well. Our iced chai latte is made with ice, black tea, blend of spices, milk and if you prefer some sweetener. The best is to make your own chai, but you can also use a chai concentrate.


INGREDIENTS:

  • Chai tea bags: use your favorite brand decaf or caffeinated

  • Milk: choose your favorite milk, non-dairy or dairy

  • Ice


INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Bring ¼ cup of water to a boil in a small pot. Add the chai tea bags and steep for 5 minutes. Remove the tea bags and add another ¼ cup of cold water.

  2. Fill a cup with some ice and add the milk before pouring the chai concentrate over the milk. Stir to combine and enjoy!

 

DIY HERBAL TEA BLEND
Be creative and start making your own tea blends! Tea blends enhance sleep, brain and liver function. Super easy and nutritive and soothing. The process of making your own tea can also work already really calming and relaxing. So, no excuses for not preparing your own tea. Find a brain booster tea blend for you below (we recommend you to go to the online drugstore or bio supermarkets for the herbs).

 
INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of peppermint

  • ½ cup tulsi

  • ½ cup gota kola

  • ½ cup ginko biloba

  • ¼ cup dried rosemary


INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Mix the dried herbs together in a bowl.

  2. Store in a sealed jar or can.

  3. Use 1 teaspoon per cup with hot water.

MENU CLEANSING:
AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DIET

Anthocyanins, turmeric, omega-3 fatty acids and resveratrol are just some examples of nutrients that come with menu cleansing aka an anti-inflammatory diet. The aim is to reduce chronic inflammation in the body and benefit from it in the long run. It might sound complicated but it is easier than you think! Think of a Mediterranean diet in which the focus is mainly on good fats from fish, avocado, nuts and olive oil. The only difference is that an anti-inflammatory diet also includes fruits. See below some anti-inflammatory food tips to include in your daily diet.


ANTI-INFLAMMATORY FOODS TO KEEP IN MIND

  • Sweet potato (delish!)

  • Cherries

  • Broccoli

  • Blueberries and raspberries

  • All leafy greens

  • Legumes as chickpeas, lentils and other beans

  • Avocado

  • FISH!

  • Whole grains as quinoa, brown rice and whole-wheat bread

  • Citrus fruits

  • Greek yoghurt

  • Eggs 


The goal is to reduce chronic inflammation in the body so also avoid processed foods and excess added sugars. Small additions and adjustments can make a big difference so go get it!
